Photopolis

Team up with players from New York, Beijing, and Shanghai for a cross-continental photography challenge! 

Explore the city and take playful and unusual interpretive photos with people you meet on the street! 

Photopolis is a cross-cultural, cross-continental, team-based game that uses photography to engage players in Beijing, Shanghai, and New York City to explore their cities, creating unexpected encounters with strangers, and highlighting the spectacular similarities and contrasts between the three cities. To play you take playful and unusual interpretive photos with people you meet on the street. The more strangers you ask for help, the more fun and interesting your game play and photos will be!

The game is played in three rounds, one round for each day of the festival, and can be played while playing other festival games. The photo prompts will change each day and will build collaboratively on the previous teams’ prompts and voting.  As the game unfolds and the chain of photos grows, a data visualization of this cross-continental collaboration will emerge for display at the eArts Gallery in Shanghai.

The game runs in three rounds from Friday 10am to Sunday 4pm.
